Coming together as one
In the Daily solution you are going to find topics from all spectrums of life. The school system, manufacturing, immigration, and finances. Clearly all of these items are very important. We all go to school and many continue to further their education. We all benefit from the amazing things that manufacturing does for us on a daily basis. We also interact with immigrants from different parts of the world. It is what has brought so many great things to this place we call home. Lastly, finances. We deal with finances and money every day and sometimes multiple times a day.
These are all clearly great things that either can benefit or can hurt someone in their personal life. The question is… how do all of these items and topics come together into one? The answer is simple. Education. Most people are not educated as to how immigration or manufacturing in our country really affects them on a personal level. Some people don’t realize the importance and the cost of education. So many people in our great country don’t realize how a few small bad financial decisions can lead to years and even decades of pain, worry, and suffering.
Now let me ask you a question…. Were everyone better educated on these subjects and able to contribute and be part of the solution to each of these issues, could it change not only the country but the world as a whole? That is the question we want you to consider while diving into each of these topics here in the Daily Solution.
Why we chose what we chose and why we did not
Jess Allred- A newly wed and student at SLCC studying graphic design was a great asset not just as part of the Daily Solution but as a student in this class. She chose to focus her semester on higher education. She chose to use her memoir and profile to express her findings and present her solutions. She felt this would help connect the readers on a more personal level. What is great is that there are so many ways to express ourselves. We just need to find the way that best fits us and we can share our thoughts and feels with everyone out there. Thats why she choose to share the pieces I did to show future students that we all have our own talents and not to be scared to share them. Like the statement, “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” And she truly believe this is the time to figure out who we are and how we fit into this world.
Tryston Taylor- Currently an engineering student at SLCC has a natural tendency to try and solve the difficult problems he comes across in life. Being a master in this trait, Tryston decided to focus on manufacturing in America. Tryston had many great pieces of work to choose from however decided to take a more logic based approach. He chose to include the informational project as well as the persuasion effect project. He is a firm believer that hard facts and information are far more helpful and clear than a personal example may be with simply addressing a problem and not defining it. Tryston decided to leave out his memoir and profile of the reasons listed above.
Chase Pearson- Chase Pearson is a student at SLCC studying to become an animator. The topic he felt would be of most importance through the semester was that of illegal immigration. Chase had so many great pieces throughout the semester it was hard to decide which to include here. He chose to include his information project seeing that he felt it was some of his very best work providing the necessary background information. He also included a special piece that was his profile to help the reader in seeing through the eyes and walking in the shows of an immigrant. He then adapted his persuasion project to an infograph to not only show simply the cause and effect of immigration, but also for it being the most appealing and interesting way to share the information. Chase decided to leave out his memoir and a few notebooks seeing that it lacked some substance necessary for the magazine.
Dillan Dove- Dillan Dove is business management and marketing student at SLCC. His topic of choice was something that he was and remains to be very passionate about. He chose to focus on debt and financial literacy, or the lack thereof. He had many personal experiences and focuses on this topic in his day to day life. He chose to include his memoir and his information project. He believes that he will be able to connect with the reader and relate to them as well as show with data and statistics the importance of financial education. He also chose to adapt his profile to a PowerPoint to help the reader visualize what the lack of this knowledge can do to a family and effect those being raised in these situations. Dillan felt he had a lot of great notebook pieces he would have loved to add. He decided however the bulk and most valuable pieces of information would be found in the works above.
Strengths and weaknesses of The Daily Solution
We believe the Daily Solution has a lot of great strengths. Everyone knows however that everything great is great because it is constantly growing and developing. This wouldn’t be possible without the many things that we can constantly improve on. We were able to come together well as a group and decide how we wanted to portray this information. Everyone really did their best work to share the vital topics that cover these issues. Each memeber of the group also has their own unique talents, styles, and abilities. This adds so much value to The Daily Solution making it relatable to all who read it.
Research and Learning is Discovering
Individually and as a paper we have come together to find the best of the best information available to the included topics. With months of research on each topic we feel confident that the information provided and discussed is accurate and extremely valuable to all who read it. We also have two amazing members of our team whose focus in school is dedicated to the creative and artistic side of things. Our paper is put together with precision and purpose.
Not only specifically through this project but through the course itself we have all grown and developed in our writing. We have learned so many new genres and techniques. All of which we will be able to use in the future to assist in our everyday lives, conversations, and careers. We have learned to really refine our writing to be more precise.
Advice to future students
We have a few points that we believe will help every student.
-Do the work on time or early. It is always best to be ahead than playing catch up.
-Refine your writing so that it not only sounds like you, but also so that it can reach other people. Use strategies and ideas to your advantage and develop your writing through yourself. Your writing comes alive that way.
-Begin with the end in mind. Think about a topic you really enjoy and would like to learn more about, and LEARN that topic. It will really come in handy toward the end of the semester.
Evaluation
We feel that the magazine has turned out good. None of us really knew what to expect. We had seen a lot of great examples and were unsure at the beginning where we wanted to go with it. One of the first struggles we had was having such a wide variety of topics. This caused a lot of hesitation as to how we would tie all of this together. After coming together on what we all wanted to be understood from our magazine, we realized exactly what we wanted to do and how all of this could come together. While looking at a few of the examples we realized that a lot of them were confusing and difficult to navigate. We decided to keep it clean, organized, and precise. We believe that for someone to better understand each piece and to find more interest in each of our topics it would be best portrayed as seen here. Together we all worked to bring this together and provide the reader with top of the line research and first hand stories to pair with each of the topics. We hope you enjoy!
